New Paragraph
This month RCSC attended 2 Reality Store Events.
One at Eastern Randolph HS and one at Trinity HS.
These events are so beneficial for the students;
and staff really enjoy working with them and
helping them figure out the best options for the "real life" experiences.
Students are given a card with their occupation, family size, income and education.
They have to visit several booths to purchase a home, utilities, clothing, insurance, childcare, transportation, groceries, bank (to pay loans), and so much more!
Some students walk away with money left over at the end of the month,
while other students have to go get a second job.
It's always a great event and fun to watch the student's reactions!

The reality is that many of our students will face the school year at a disadvantage from their peers.
They will be hindered because they do not have the means to get the supplies that are needed.
One of the goals is to provide school supplies so that every student has a chance to enter
the year with the tools necessary to succeed.
This year the Back to School Bash was a blast!
We had over 250 visitors to our table and the event sponsored: over 740 bookbags, 500 ears of street corn, 350 corn dogs, 250 hot dogs, 25 gallons of tea and 10 cases of water were given away!
25 people received free haircuts and 58 vision checks were provided.

laughing happy children ALL day!
Best of all were the smiles on faces as kids had a chance to
enjoy a day just for them before starting back to school.

During the Reality Store Event in November 2023, RCSC Staff Kathy Tarlton and Stephanie Pitts visited Southwestern Randolph High School 9th graders. Students were given cards at the beginning of the session with their specific career, family size, income etc. They had to visit each booth and determine and purchase their needs for a month, then subtract the monthly expenses from their check register and keep up with their monthly balances. And during the event students got a SURPRISE---if your card had a pink dot on it, then you also just had to pay a roofing company to fix your leaking roof!
What an amazing experience for staff and the students!
The Principal for a Day (PFAD) program, an initiative of the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce’s Business and Education Committee, began in 2014. The Business and Education Committee
comprises representatives from the chamber, the Randolph County School System,
Asheboro City Schools, Uwharrie Charter Academy, Randolph Community College,
Communities in Schools, and area businesses and community organizations.
The PFAD program is designed to increase awareness and understanding in the business
community of the strengths and challenges of our schools, as well as form ongoing partnerships
and collaboration between schools and local businesses and organizations. Schools in the Randolph
County School System and Asheboro City Schools have hosted PFAD guests at varying times
over the past several years (with a two year hiatus due to COVID).
PFAD visits are designed to be informal. Typically, guests arrive at schools around 7:30 a.m. and stay through lunch, but as a courtesy to both the principal and his/her guest, both of whom have busy schedules, flexibility is allowed to coordinate the day as they see fit. The hope is that guests will experience as much of a typical school day as possible. The ultimate objective of PFAD is to build relationships, and in the process, PFAD guests typically regard their school visit as an eye-opening experience - in a positive way.
Principals enjoy showing off their schools, and PFAD guests always seem to come away from their school visit with newfound respect and admiration for the work being done – by administrators, teachers, school staff, and students.
The Business and Education Committee selects American Education Week as the time period each year to conduct “Principal for a Day” visits, but schools and businesses have the latitude to coordinate visits anytime during the school year. This year, RCSC Pre-ETS Director, Stephanie Pitts was hosted by Uwharrie Charter Academy (UCA). It was an excellent experience which gave both parties the opportunities to discuss the great things happening with UCA, as well as RCSC!
